McCormick County, South Carolina Democratic Women's Meeting
11-24-2020, via ZOOM
Hostess Marion Farina brought meeting to order.
Paula Goldman facilitated.
We need to begin prering for next election NOW.
1) Since Floyd Nicholson lost his race for SC Senator to Garrett, we want to suggest to the Democratic party membership that we make some sort of THANK YOU to Floyd for his years of service.
We wondered if a contribution to Floyd’s favorite charity might be a good idea.
2) In an effort to involve young people in the election process, we brainstormed ways to do so. Best idea was to send birthday greetings to the members of the senior class as they turn 18 and thus become eligible to vote. We thought a folder of information including a letter addressed to the student congratulating them on now being able to vote. Also voter registration form, instructions on how to fill out the form whether on line or in paper format. JoAnn Ritchie offered copies of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Possible inclusion of famous quotes e.g. John Lewis “Get into GOOD trouble.” Suggested that we ask for a $250 annual amount for this service.
3) Need for storage: we have items such as 2 booth canopies, 1 large table, 1 large banner and 1 smaller banner touting the benefits the Democrats have won such as social security, campaign signs. Having these in a central place would make it easier to use them as needed.
Paula reminded us that Mimi is handling the decorations for the Democratic party Christmas tree that will be part of the display in the Cotton Mill during Christmas.
She has a committee that will help decorate the lighted tree that has been provided for this event.
Did we already ask for funds for this project?
My source in Lincolnton provided this info about the Democratic party there:
There is a small party. They have not met since January due to Covid.
Virginia Williams is the person to contact. Due to no cell tower in her area messages do not always come through. However, she said to give you her information:
HOME: (706) 359- 1879
CELL: (706) 401-6741
EMAIL: ginger1366@yahoo.com
She and Mamie Garnett (the president) said they would love some help!
Thanks for the offer.
