DEMOCATIC WOMEN MEET in person at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in McCormick
October 26, 2021
Minutes of meeting 10-26-21
Paula began the meeting by asking Jackie Brown to lead us in a prayer.
Congratulations to Jackie Brown for her successful campaign to take Earl Coleman's seat on the county council in District 5. Ms. Brown won a sizable number of votes more than her opponent.
We began the meeting by welcoming our speaker Jennie Brantley, JAG instructor/coordinator. JAG is acronym for Jobs for American Graduates. Her work with students includes career preparedness, leadership, teamwork, project based learning, service excellence, professional development, communication.
Ms. Brantley won an award in July from the board of directors of JAG.
She shared how the JAG closet works to provide students with snacks, clothing, school supplies, uniform items such as white blouses or red, white, black apparel. We ladies discussed how we might sponsor this effort in some way. We devised a plan that we will bring up at the party meeting Tuesday.
FESTIVAL OF TREES
Robin Oetgen explained that Charlotte Talent had asked our help in distributing flyers in SLV for the Festival of Trees. We had volunteers:
Joan and Paula will do Monticello.
Jo Ann & Renee are doing Hugenot (I think this is Magnolia subdivision)
Carol, Marion, & Pat Snow are doing Tara
Carol can also help Mary Anne in Shenandoah
Mary Lou Hoyt will help in Southwind
Monticello 214 (250) Paula & Joan
Shenandoah 228 (300) JoAnn and Renee will do Huguenot streets. Carol may help Mary Ann do Shenandoah (lower section).
Magnolia 230 (250) Niiti & Melody
Southwind 90 (100) Mary Lou & Robin
Tara 339 (370) Carol, Marion, & Pat
Savannah Point 56 (80) Charlotte
Is someone doing Savannah Point?
We felt that our efforts for a communal get together would help to build community. Jackie Brown questioned "What about the rest of the community?" We discussed putting a flyer in the Messenger (Jackie thought this might cost $128), sending flyer to churches with request to be put on their bulletin boards.
The Christmas Parade was discussed briefly. In the past we used Lelia Jackson's parking area to build the float. We need a flat bed trailer and discussed ways to find one.
NEXT MEETING WLL BE NOVEMBER 30 AT NOON
