Meeting June 7th 2022
Meeting called to order by Chairman Brown at 5:30 p.m.
Brad Singer discussed Joe Cunningham’s (SC Governor candidate) four key points:
Mia is from South Carolina and described her past experience as serving 12 years in the House of Representatives and her motto is “Actions Speak Louder than words”. She highlighted the differences between her and her opponents:
Mia emphasized that she is not a leader who is worried about her seat because she’s for the people and has never lost an election. Mia also stated that she wrote an open letter to current Governor McMaster for his failure to release funds to South Carolinians from the American Rescue Plan. After the letter went public, he complied.
Paula Goldman – Juneteeth Parade – June 18th
Paula Goldman stated that the Juneteenth parade will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18th. People will meet at the Bethany Baptist Church between 9-9:30 before the parade starts.
Joan Stockton Comments – “Poll Watcher” Training
RoseAnne Riddick publicly thank Joan for providing two Poll Watcher training classes at the library. These classes were well attended.
Chairman Introduces Young & Upcoming Students in Attendance: Cherry Brown called out the young and upcoming students who have recently graduated from McCormick H.S. There is one student who graduated from high school AND Piedmont Technical College!
Cherry also introduced people that have upcoming elections - Tamala White for District 5 County Council, Kitty Butler – Probate Judge, Mary Shirley – Treasurer, Carissa Parks – Auditor, and Jackie Brown – District 5 County Council.
Cherry requested that she needs the names of Democrats that have passed as of 2021 who were instrumental in the Democrat Party. She is requesting names and a picture so that she can submit by June 9th.
June 10th Democratic Gubernatorial Debate SCETV Live Broadcast of all 5 Candidates – 5 p.m.
Democratic Convention @ Columbia SC – June 10th and 11th
Cherry announced that the special guest at the June 10th dinner will be VP Kamala Harris! Cherry also asked for volunteers to man the table for the MCDP from 8 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. RoseAnne Riddick and Faye Puckett volunteered. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
Cherry invited Ernie Rogge to address the 14 Resolutions that the Democrat Party are proposing. Cherry also discussed the 4 Amendments (Rules) that are also being proposed by the Democrat Party.
Open Forum Comments
Jackie Brown will be mailing out precinct locations for District 5 before the June 14th Primary. Cherry also asked for a Committee/Chairperson for the September Fish Fry. The last fish fry was held September 18th 2021 and Jo Ann Ritchie was the Chair for this. Cherry will contact Jo Ann to see if she can volunteer again.
This MCDP meeting was well-attended with snacks/cookies and water/soft drinks provided by the Chair.

- Chairman Brown welcomed County Council and School Board members, County Coroner, Ministers, MCDP executive committee and Precinct Presidents
Brad Singer discussed Joe Cunningham’s (SC Governor candidate) four key points:
- Expand Medicaid on Day 1 that he is elected
- Education – Has a 5-point plan for recruitment of teachers and how to retain teachers
- Expansion of revenue source (allow for sports gambling)
- Build back businesses in SC by rewriting tax codes

- Fierce advocate for jobs, economic and workforce development and is for the equitably funded public education
- Medicaid expansion
- Women’s reproductive rights by funding the “pro birth accountability” bill
- Marijuana legalization and decriminalization
- Reform Gun Laws
